Fans react as Tottenham star Matt Doherty tests positive for coronavirus
As reported by Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur defender Matt Doherty has tested positive for coronavirus while on national team duty with the Republic of Ireland.
Doherty, along with teammate James McClean are the two players that have contracted the virus and have been isolated from the rest of the squad, a statement from the Irish FA has confirmed. (h/t Sky Sports)
“The Football Association of Ireland can confirm Ireland defender Matt Doherty and forward James McClean have tested positive for Covid-19. The players have been isolated from the group as per Covid-19 protocols, and the HSE have been informed of this development.”
Doherty and McClean both started in Ireland’s 1-0 defeat to Wales this past weekend, where another Tottenham player, Gareth Bale had come in contact with the right-back. Two other Spurs stars – Ben Davies and Joe Rodon were also involved in the game.
Naturally, the situation has left the fans worried and questioning the need of international breaks given the current situation all across the world.

Why oh why have we had international football during a pandemic. Absolutely shocking decision. Cant go to the barbers but players can travel with teammates who have come from all over the planet to play pointless games.

Every club should refuse to send players out on international duty now.
