Tottenham still keen on RB Leipzig midfield star Marcel Sabitzer
According to German publication BILD (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur are targeting a swoop for RB Leipzig’s Austrian midfield superstar Marcel Sabitzer.
Sabitzer has been a key member of the RB Leipzig side since making the move to the club in 2015. The 26-year-old impressed heavily in the 2019/20 season, playing a crucial role in the club’s third-place finish in Bundesliga and the semi-final run in the UEFA Champions League.
In 44 appearances across all competitions, the Austrian international plundered 16 goals and created 11 more, despite playing in a central midfield role for a large part of the season. He has started the new campaign fairly well as well, bagging two goals and an assist in six games so far. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Sabitzer’s performances had seen him get linked with Tottenham in the summer transfer window. And, as per the aforementioned report, the North London giants remain keen on signing the Austrian international.
The 26-year-old will be entering the final year of his contract next summer. And RB Leipzig could be forced to sell their prized asset rather than losing him for nothing in 2022, which could provide Tottenham with a chance to make a swoop. (h/t Football.london)
Sabitzer himself has previously hinted that he wants to test himself in the Premier League. (h/t Football.london)
“I have played in England a couple of times, with the national team as well, and the atmosphere inspired me. I like watching the Premier League, and I can imagine it’s fun to play there.”
