Ex-PL star Kevin Phillips backs Dele Alli to reunite with Mauricio Pochettino
Speaking on Football Insider, as reported by Football.london, former Premier League striker Kevin Phillips has claimed that out of favour Tottenham star Dele Alli could join hands with Mauricio Pochettino.
The 24-year-old England international has been with Tottenham since 2015, having joined from MK Dons. While he has been a guaranteed starter for almost his entire tenure at the club, Alli finds himself frozen out of the first-team picture by Jose Mourinho in the current season.
Indeed, the midfielder has hardly taken the field for us this term and has failed to make the most of whatever little opportunities that have come his way. This has led to speculations that Alli could be on his way out of Tottenham come the January transfer window.
There have been suggestions that Alli could join forces with former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, should he take up the managerial role at Manchester United in the near future. Adding on those claims, Phillips has stated that the 24-year-old could reunite with the Argentine wherever he joins next. (h/t Football.london)
“You would have thought he would try and sign Dele. Things are not quite happening for him at Spurs right now and if he is to move on you would have to say that wherever Pochettino goes he would look to sign Dele Alli.”
It was under Pochettino’s tutelage that Alli flourished and grew into one of the best goalscoring midfielders in the Premier League at Tottenham. However, the 24-year-old’s form has dipped quite a bit over the past couple of years.
