Son Heung-min closing in on new bumper contract at Tottenham Hotspur

According to Football Insider, as relayed by Football.london, Tottenham Hotspur superstar Son Heung-min is on the verge of signing a new contract with the club.

Son has been at Tottenham since 2015, having joined from Bayer Leverkusen and has grown into one of the best forwards in the Premier League. The 28-year-old has taken his game up a level in the ongoing campaign, with his partnership with Harry Kane terrorising defences in 2020/21.

So far, the South Korean international has racked up 8 goals in 8 Premier League outings, while registering two assists as well. In addition, he has also scored two goals and assisted three more in the UEFA Europa League (qualifiers included). (h/t Transfermarkt)

A report from The Athletic last month claimed that Tottenham were working to tie Son down with a new and improved contract. This story was soon confirmed by Spurs’ manager Jose Mourinho soon after.

And earlier this month it was reported that Tottenham were looking to offer a contract to the South Korean international that would put him on par with Harry Kane as the highest-earner at the club. This would see him bag wages of around £200,000-a-week, that is before bonuses. (h/t Express)

And now, the aforementioned report is claiming that an extension is close to being agreed. It is said that Tottenham are confident of getting the deal done and dusted in the coming weeks, with everything likely to be wrapped up before the January transfer window opens. (h/t Football.london)

Tying Son down with a new long-term contract would certainly be a step in the right direction. At 28, he is in his prime years and is playing some of his best football and along with Kane, can lead us to great things.
