Owen Hargreaves backs Dele Alli to get better after Ludogorets performance

Speaking on BT Sport, as reported by Football.london, former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has insisted that Dele Alli can get much better, after his recent performance against Ludogorets.

It has been a difficult season so far for Alli, with the Englishman being pretty much frozen out of the first-team picture by Jose Mourinho. Indeed, until Thursday’s game, Alli had started just three times, being subbed off at half-time in two of those.

However, on Thursday, against Ludogorets, the 24-year-old stepped it up in a big way, putting in a fine performance. Alli provided two assists for star striker Carlos Vinicius, while he posed a constant threat in the final third with his aggressive movement.

And, Hargreaves has hailed the attitude with which Alli played, insisting that he had a ‘chip on his shoulder’, which could go on to bring the best out of him. (h/t Football.london)

“When he gets physical and gets into the game and gets angry, he plays with a chip on his shoulder. He took those moments to build a bit of confidence and then the flair comes out. Mourinho likes players who are a bit angry, but if he plays like he did (against Ludogorets) he’ll get better.”

It was, indeed, a performance filled with a lot of aggression from Alli. Seeing him play like this was a pleasant sight for the fans, considering how marginalised he has been this term.

Here’s hoping that this was a sign of things to come and Alli manages to earn his place back in the starting lineup.
