Tottenham overreliant on Harry Kane and Son Heung-min claims Chris Sutton
Speaking on Stadium Astro, as relayed by the Express, former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton has claimed that Tottenham might not win the Premier League title as they are overreliant on Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.
Following our goalless draw against Chelsea this past weekend, Tottenham reclaimed the top spot in the Premier League table. As things stand, we are level on points with Liverpool in second but ahead on goal difference while Chelsea are third, two points behind us.
Given our position in the table and the form that the players have been, naturally, talks of a title have been going around. Former Chelsea forward Sutton though, thinks Tottenham are not contenders, owing to the overreliance on Kane and son. (h/t Express)
“They’re not going to win it. Jose Mourinho has been a brilliant, brilliant manager. I just believe there are better squads out than Spurs have. Too reliant on Harry Kane. Too reliant on Son. Injuries to them and I think they will fall away, but it has been a great start and it’s good to see Spurs doing well.”
A lot of the credit for our strong start to the season has to go to the way Kane and Son have performed. The former has the most assists in the league this season, while the latter is the second-highest goalscorer so far.
And while they have been our best players, we have seen Carlos Vinicius step up when needed in recent weeks and the likes of Gareth Bale, Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn have enough quality to do so over the course of the season.
