Tottenham still monitoring Vfl Wolsburg striker Wout Weghorst
According to a report from Football 365 (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur still hold an interest in VfL Wolfsburg centre-forward Wout Weghorst, who could be available in January.
The 28-year-old came through the youth ranks at Dutch club DETO and had spells at Willem II, FC Emmen, Heracles Almelo before he joined AZ Alkmaar in 2016. In 86 appearances for the club over two years, he scored 45 goals, before signing for Wolfsburg in 2018.
Since joining the Bundesliga outfit, Weghorst has continued to score at an impressive rate. Last season saw Weghorst bag an impressive 20 goals in 43 appearances across all competitions, while setting up five more. And, he has been able to continue in the same vein of form in the ongoing campaign, having already netted eight goals in 13 matches, while setting up another.
Tottenham had been credited with an interest in Weghorst back in the summer as the club was in the market for a new striker. However, no move materialised as we ended up signing Carlos Vinicius on a season-long loan from SL Benfica.
And while Spurs do have the option of making Vinicius’ transfer permanent, should the club not do so, we will end back at square one. And, in case that situation arises, Spurs are drawing up plans, with Weghorst still very much on the club’s radars. (h/t Football.london)
Weghorst could be available in January, should the right offer come along. Wolfsburg managing director Jorg Schmadtke admitted as much in a recent interview with SportBuzzer. (h/t Football.london)
“We have always said: If there is a reasonable offer that Wout also considers interesting, then we will sit down and discuss it. That’s how we discussed it when he renewed his contract. But everyone knows that I don’t like doing transfers in winter!”

Weghorst has been playing at a high level and delivering the goods season after season. He can be an intriguing option to bolster our attack, irrespective of how Vinicius fares.
