According to a report from Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur are closely monitoring the development of Brighton & Hove Albion defender Ben White, along with rivals Chelsea and Manchester United.

The 23-year-old came through the youth ranks at Brighton academy. After loan spells at Newport County and Peterborough United, the centre-back spent the last term with Leeds United. White emerged as one of the best defenders in the Championship as Leeds won the title to earn promotion back to the Premier League.

White has continued in the same vein of form in his maiden Premier League season, establishing himself as a permanent fixture in the Seagulls’ backline. The Englishman has started each of Brighton’s Premier League matches this season.

According to WyScout’s index ratings (h/t Sky Sports), White is the fourth-best performing centre-back in the Premier League behind Chelsea duo Kurt Zouma, Thiago Silva and Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhaes. And this has seemingly alerted a number of top clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur.

Jose Mourinho strengthened his defence in the summer with the signing of Joe Rodon from Swansea City. However, with Toby Alderweireld not getting any younger and Davinson Sanchez not favoured by the manager, signing another centre-back seems to be something that the club are keen on. We have been credited with an interest in Sassuolo’s 28-year-old centre-back Gian Marco Ferrari ahead of the January window. And, it is now being claimed that the club is also keeping a close watch on White’s development at Brighton. (h/t Sky Sports)

Any move for White is unlikely to take place in January. However, if he keeps up this level of performance, it wouldn’t be a surprise if a number of major clubs line up to sign him.
