Tottenham Hotspur can land Milan Skriniar in January for £45m
Speaking on the Here We Go podcast (h/t The Daily Mail), transfer expert Fabrizio Romano believes Tottenham Hotspur could land Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar on the second time of asking in the upcoming January transfer window.
The centre-back is amongst the best players in his position in the Italian top-flight. He was also linked with a move to us in the summer but a deal failed to take shape.
It would now appear that Spurs have not entirely missed the bus. Paying £45million should see him make the move to North London in the New Year.
“Inter Milan needs money. If Spurs arrive tomorrow morning with £45m, Inter will sell him.”
Having lost Jan Vertonghen at the end of last season, Spurs were a centre-back short going into the new campaign. With Toby Alderweireld also not getting any younger, it was imperative to add fresh blood to a rather unconvincing backline.
Inter meanwhile remained adamant that the Slovakian was not for sale. The Italians are now seeking funds after the finances were hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.
Romano revealed that Spurs now hold the key to a potential deal. A bid that matches Inter’s valuation is what could be needed in order to sign the 25-year-old.
“[The deal for Skiniar] is up to Tottenham now.”
Now or never
Although Spurs signed Joe Rodon in the summer, the young Welshman is not yet adept at the top level. He has undoubted potential but it remains to be seen if he has what it takes to step up against top opposition if needed.
Tottenham find themselves in a strong position to challenge for the Premier League title this season. With teams around us struggling, we will need to ensure we have the tools at our disposal to make the advantage count.
Bringing in Skriniar would address one such issue. A vastly experienced player, he would be an upgrade over the inexperienced Rodon and an inconsistent Davinson Sanchez.

Spurs have conceded just nine goals in the Premier League season, fewer than any other side so far. It is a testament to Jose Mourinho’s tactics that he has turned us into a mean outfit with the players at our disposal.
It is exciting to think about what he could do with a player of Skriniar’s ability. Whether we will make a move for him remains to be seen.
