Atletico Madrid earmark Tottenham target Arkadiusz Milik to replace Diego Costa
According to Spanish outlet AS (h/t Football.london), Atletico Madrid are interested in wantaway Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
The 26-year-old is in the final year of his contract with the Italian giants. While Spurs were linked with him last summer, a deal could not be agreed upon. We instead signed Carlos Vinicius on loan from Benfica.
Milik has been sidelined at Napoli by manager Gennaro Gattuso. The striker is yet to feature this season after being left out of their league squad.
It would appear that the 26-year-old has no shortage of suitors. Atletico are keen to take him to the Spanish capital, especially if Diego Costa leaves the club in January.
Apart from the Spaniards, both Everton and Spurs have also been touted as potential destinations. While the player was content to stay put until next summer, the approaching Euros may force his hand in the January window.
The head of the Polish FA Zbigniew Boniek admitted that Milik may not make the cut for Poland if he fails to play regularly – whether it be at Napoli or elsewhere. With Gattuso having frozen him out, it would be safe to assume that his future lies elsewhere.
Milik joined Napoli in 2016 and has been an impressive performer for the Serie A outfit. To date, he has featured 113 times for the club, scoring 47 goals. The 26-year-old featured 34 times across all competitions in the 2019/20 campaign, bagging 14 goals in the process.
Other clubs in the fray include Newcastle United and AS Roma. (h/t Football.london)

While Carlos Vinicius and Harry Kane are already at the club, Spurs are fighting on multiple fronts this season. With a number of matches to come, we will have to ensure we have strength in depth to rotate our roster effectively.
Milik can be considered a luxury rather than a necessity. However, the availability of yet another striker will be a boost. While he will still be behind Harry Kane in the pecking order, he could get more opportunities than he currently does at Napoli.
