Non-League side Marine FC are scheduled to host Premier League leaders Tottenham Hotspur on January 10, 2021, in the third round of the FA Cup at Rossett Park.

The Liverpool-based team, who play in the Northern Premier League Division One in the 8th-tier of English football, will play the FA Cup tie with a restricted number of audience whereby the away Tottenham fans would not be able to attend the fixture.

Spurs fans will not be able to attend FA Cup fixture due to current coronavirus restrictions by the government which restricts the number of fans allowed in a stadium to 2,000 in certain areas.

A club statement from Marine FC starts off by thanking the Spurs supporters for visiting Marine’s stadium as the 8th-tier witnesses a historic cup run.

“Since the draw was announced, Marine has been inundated by groups of Spurs fans coming to the Marine Travel Arena to take photographs of our proud stadium that their heroes will be playing at. It has been an incredibly tough year for everybody in football. For Marine fans, we have had a once in a lifetime FA Cup run but sadly the ties against Colchester Utd, Chester, and Havant & Waterlooville had to be played behind closed doors.”

The statement goes on to lament the situation due to the coronavirus pandemic which restricts the number of fans allowed in a football stadium, including Rossett Park which hosts the FA Cup round 3 fixture against Spurs.

“This is devastating for the supporters of Marine and has also severely affected the revenues we would have otherwise received. Likewise, Tottenham Hotspur fans have not been able to attend their games and have missed their team’s rise to top of the Premier League. Spurs fans also are not allowed to attend the FA Cup match due to the pandemic.”

The official club statement goes on to announce the club’s plan of handing out a free ticket to all Spurs season ticket holders for a league game at Rossett Park next season.

“As a result of this, Marine Football Club announce that they will allow entry next season free of charge to one Marine league game to all Spurs season ticket holders. This will allow Spurs fans to have the chance to attend the ground having missed out this time and will strengthen that bond between the clubs.

The club has specified the following procedure for any Tottenham Hotspur season ticket holder to avail their free ticket.

“An email should be sent at least 48 hours before any league game next season with your name and season ticket number to fans@marinefc.com stating the game you wish to attend. Instructions on ticket collection will then be provided.”

Spurs are the Premier League leaders and their fans visiting Marine’s home ground would no doubt boost the status of the latter.

Marine, a Non-League club, have got to this stage of the competition after beating three professional Football League clubs.
