Jose Mourinho provides an update on a new contract for Son Heung-min
As reported by Football.london, Jose Mourinho has issued an update on the status of a new contract for Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min.
The 28-year-old has been with the club since 2015 and has grown into an integral part of the team. He, along with Harry Kane, has been in splendid form this season, spearheading our charge in the Premier League title race.
Naturally, talks over a new and improved contract have been doing the rounds over the past couple of months. A report from The Athletic claimed that Tottenham were working to tie Son down with a new and improved contract. This story was soon confirmed by Spurs’ manager Jose Mourinho soon after.
However, talks over a new deal have progressed slowly, due to the current financial situation because of the pandemic. (h/ Football.london)
“No, I don’t have any news. To be honest, this instability around society, around clubs, around football. We have 2,000 [fans back in the stadium], we are expecting an evolution, we are expecting more people, we are expecting more income, certainly, a couple of weeks later, 2,000 goes back to zero, nobody in the stadium.”
But Mourinho is hopeful that an agreement can be reached upon soon, insisting that Son would be happy to stay at the club for the rest of his professional career.
“I just trust Sonny and Mr Levy. I know that both, they want [him] to stay, if possible, for life, if possible until the end of the career, so I see Sonny signing a new contract here.”

Last month, it was reported that Tottenham were looking to offer a contract to Son that would put him on par with Harry Kane as the highest-earner at the club. This would see him bag wages of around £200,000-a-week, that is before bonuses. (h/t Express)
