Trent Alexander-Arnold taunts Jose Mourinho as Tottenham fall short at Anfield

It proved to be another disappointing trip to Anfield for Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho. Spurs had their chances but did not take them, paving the way for Liverpool to win it at the end.

Mourinho was left frustrated after Roberto Firmino’s late winner. There was an exchange of words between him and Klopp at the end, where the Spurs boss told his Liverpool counterpart that the best team lost.

It was a statement that Mourinho would go on to repeat in the post-match presser. Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold, however, was having none of it.

The English international took to Instagram and made a post with the statement “The best team won”. This appears to be a subtle dig at Mourinho’s post-match comments.

Alexander-Arnold also went on to post an Instagram story with him sticking his tongue out and replaying the same message. It would appear obvious that Mourinho has gotten under the skin of the defending champions.

While Liverpool may have had more possession and more chances, the best chances in the team fell to Spurs. Steven Bergwijn hit the post and Harry Kane missed a free header. Had either of the chances gone in, it is possible Alexander-Arnold’s message would have still held true, only it would have been in our favour.

In the end, Tottenham did put up a better performance than they usually do at Anfield. Had we been more clinical, we could have come away as the first team to beat the Anfield hoodoo in the league for 66 games.

Despite the loss, we are only three points below Liverpool and still very much in the title race. The return fixture will be played in North London in January. Hopefully, that will be the night where Mourinho has the last laugh over Klopp.
