Ben Davies reveals what Tottenham are aiming for this campaign

Speaking after the defeat to Liverpool (h/t football.london), Ben Davies revealed what Tottenham Hotspur players are aiming for this season.

Son Heung-min equalised for the visitors in the 33rd minute after Mohamed Salah opened the scoring 7 minutes prior.

Spurs came close with Steven Bergwijn hitting the post, but it was Liverpool who stole a 90th-minute winner. Roberto Firmino headed in from an Andy Robertson corner to displace Spurs from the top of the league table.

Jose Mourinho has underplayed Tottenham’s Premier League aspirations by calling them a “pony” instead of an underdog. However, Spurs left-back Ben Davies says that the team has lofty ambitions this season. (h/t football.london)

Instead of repeating the worn-out line of being ‘focused on the next game’, the Welshman revealed that the team wants to fight for the Premier League title this season.

“That has to be our aim [to be in the title race]… we’re up there. We want to fight.”

The left-back went on to add that the club has its eyes on winning its first silverware since 2008, when they won the Carling Cup.

“Winning something this year is what we’re aiming for.”

Jose Mourinho signed left-back Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid in the summer. However, Ben Davies got the nod ahead of the 24-year-old Spaniard against Liverpool.

Davies, who was signed from Swansea more than 6 years ago, will be hoping to feature when Spurs welcome Leicester City this weekend.

The Foxes lie 4th in the table, just a point behind Tottenham. A win could see the Lilywhites return to the top of the table if Liverpool lose their game against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
