Carlos Vinicius was not in the Tottenham squad against Liverpool

A report by Football.london has stated the reason behind on-loan Tottenham Hotspur striker Carlos Vinicius not featuring in the loss against Liverpool.

Tottenham visited Anfield on Wednesday at the top of the Premier League table, but with Liverpool trailing them in second only on goal difference.

One notable absentee from Jose Mourinho’s matchday squad was Brazilian striker Carlos Vinicius.

Vinicius has 3 goals and 3 assists in the UEFA Europa League this season. Despite netting against Ludogorets and Royal Antwerp recently, he was not in Mourinho’s matchday squad.

Jose Mourinho had too many options on his hand and did not have enough space to include the 25-year-old in his team.

His absence was even more surprising, and a tad bit worrying, considering Gareth Bale and Erik Lamela were both out due to injury.

Instead, the Portuguese manager chose Dele Alli and Lucas Moura to feature on the bench.

Tottenham started with the trusted pairing of Son Heung-min and Harry Kane up front. The South Korean was on hand to cancel out Mohamed Salah’s 26th-minute opener for Liverpool.

Steven Bergwijn hit the post around the one-hour mark before Roberto Firmino won the game for Liverpool with a header in the last minute of the match.

The result saw Spurs interchange places with Liverpool in the Premier League table. Jose Mourinho’s side now trail league leaders Liverpool by 3 points.
