Son Heung-min and Jan Vertonghen share funny phone conversation after Puskas Award win
As reported by the Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min was involved in a funny phone conversation with ex-teammate Jan Vertonghen after he won the FIFA Puskas Award 2020 for his goal against Burnley.
Son Heung-min’s goal against Burnley in the Premier League last December won the prestigious award last night at the FIFA Awards ceremony in Switzerland. And, Vertonghen, who had got the assist for the South Korean’s goal rung him up after the ceremony.
Son could not contain his happiness at seeing Vertonghen call him up. However, the Belgian did not sound impressed by the Tottenham man’s lack of thanks for his assist.
“Not even a text.”
Son then gave a belated thanks to his former teammate insisting that the goal couldn’t have been possible if not for him.
“I love it! I love it! Super Jan, what an assist! Without you probably I would not score this goal.”
Vertonghen responded saying “I don’t think so, of course not!”

Things got a bit emotional after that as Son went on to say he “missed” Vertonghen big time, with the former defender reciprocating those feelings. The Belgian then went on to add that Sonny was always welcome to visit him in Portugal.
Vertonghen and Son were teammates at the club for five years until the latter left at the end of the last season after his contract ran out. He may have joined Benfica but it’s clear that he still has Tottenham in his heart. Super Jan always!
