Jose Mourinho contacts Luka Modric over a potential return to Tottenham
According to Spanish outlet El Chiringuito TV (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur manager has contacted Real Madrid star Luka Modric over a possible return to North London in the future.
The Croatian international joined Tottenham in the summer of 2008 from Dinamo Zagreb and spent four years at the club before Mourinho persuaded him to join Real Madrid.
The 35-year-old just played for one year under Jose in Spain and had a difficult campaign. However, after that, he grew into one of the best midfielders in the game, going onto achieve an iconic status at Real Madrid, having helped them to four Champions League trophies and two La Liga titles.
Even at 35, Modric is going strong as ever and is a regular starter for Zinedine Zidane’s side. However, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, Jose Mourinho is trying to reunite with the midfielder and secure a return to Tottenham. (h/t Express)
The Croatian international will be able to speak with clubs from abroad over a pre-contract agreement for a free transfer in the summer starting January. And Mourinho has acted early in order to try and convince him to come back to Tottenham.
Modric, for his part, holds Jose in very high regard and claimed in a recent interview with The Times (h/t Express) that Spurs had done the right thing by appointing him as manager.
“I have a special affection for him, for everything he meant for me. Tottenham did a great thing to appoint him as a manager because he is a proven winner. It’s a great thing for Tottenham to be able to bring in someone like him.”
