Tottenham tipped to make Carlos Vinicius transfer permanent in summer
Speaking on Football Insider (h/t Football.london), former Tottenham striker Darren Bent has backed the club to sign Brazilian striker Carlos Vinicius on a permanent deal in the summer.
Vinicius joined Tottenham on a season-long loan from SL Benfica in the summer transfer window. The 25-year-old hasn’t quite exploded on the scenes but has impressed each time he has been given a chance, especially in the UEFA Europa League.
In six appearances across all competitions thus far, Vinicius has scored three goals and assisted three more. And Bent is of the opinion that there have been enough signs that should encourage Tottenham to trigger the £41m option-to-buy clause in his loan deal.
“He’s led the line really well so I think Mourinho will look at it and go: ‘Well yeah, I wouldn’t mind keeping him around.’ There’s a drop off between him and Harry Kane but that’s going to be the same for any striker that goes in at Spurs.”
Bent further added that Vinicius understands his role within the side and knows that he will have to play second-fiddle to Harry Kane but be ready to deliver when needed.
“He’s come in, he’s learning his role – he knows his role is to back up to Harry Kane, he knows he’s not going to oust him yet, but he knows full well that when he gets in there, he needs to do the business.”

While it is true that Vinicius hasn’t played a lot for us yet, the 25-year-old has shown glimpses of his quality in his limited appearances. However, there’s still plenty of time to pull the trigger on his permanent purchase clause. So, the club would be better served to wait and see how he fares over the course of the season.
