Tottenham Hotspur still interested in Inter Milan star Milan Skriniar
According to The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur have not given up on signing Inter Milan’s Slovakian star Milan Skriniar going into the January transfer window.
Spurs were keen on securing the 25-year-old in the summer. However, a deal could not be agreed on and we went on to bring in Swansea City starlet Joe Rodon on domestic deadline day. (h/t Football.london)
Skriniar has made 12 appearances for Inter this season and has been on the losing side just once. Of the five games he missed, three were due to him testing positive for coronavirus. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Despite holding the third-best defensive record in the league, Spurs have at times looked vulnerable at the back. It can be argued that Toby Alderweireld is showing signs of regression and we could do with another centre-back.
Davinson Sanchez has fallen down the pecking order while Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon are relatively inexperienced at the top level. All things said, signing a senior defender could be seen as a necessity rather than a luxury.
According to the report, it is unlikely that an agreement for Skriniar will be able found in January. However, a transfer in the summer transfer window is seen as more realistic.
A cheaper option in January?
A defensive manager, Jose Mourinho thrives on his utilization of a well-organized rearguard. While Skriniar has been excellent at Inter, he could potentially go up a notch under the wily Portuguese.
It was mentioned on Football.london (h/t Tottenham News Twitter) that a significant reason for Skriniar not joining Spurs in the summer was Inter’s asking price. It has been suggested that we could make a move for the defender if the Italian giants lower their asking price.

Tottenham find themselves in a strong position to challenge for the Premier League title this season. With teams around us struggling, we will need to ensure we have the tools at our disposal to make the advantage count.
Bringing in Skriniar would address one such issue. A vastly experienced player, he will give us more options heading into the business end of the season. Whether we will make a move for him remains to be seen.
