Son Heung-min contract delayed due to wage disparity

According to South Korean journalist Jason Lee on Twitter, talks of a new deal for Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min have delayed due to a disagreement over wages between the two parties.

The 28-year-old has been with the club since 2015 and has grown into an integral part of the team. He, along with Harry Kane, has been in splendid form this season, spearheading our charge in the Premier League title race.

Naturally, talks over a new and improved contract have been doing the rounds over the past couple of months. A report from The Athletic claimed that Tottenham were working to tie Son down with a new and improved contract. This story was soon confirmed by Spurs’ manager Jose Mourinho soon after.

Last month, it was claimed that Tottenham were looking to offer Son a new deal that would put him on par with Harry Kane as the highest-earner at the club. This would see him bag wages of around £200,000-a-week, that is before bonuses. (h/t Express)

However, according to Jason Lee, Son Heung-min’s camp is holding out for a pay-packet around £250,000 per week, which has led to talks dragging on. But the journalist does add that the deal will still take place.

It has been a terrific year for Son. The 28-year-old recently won the FIFA Puskas Award for the Best Goal. He was also voted the Fans’ Tottenham Hotspur Player of the Year. Hopefully, the deal to extend his stay at the club is finalised at the earliest possible.
