Jose Mourinho’s treatment of Dele Alli questioned by Jamie O’Hara
Speaking on talkSPORT (h/t Football.london), former Tottenham Hotspur star Jamie O’Hara has questioned the treatment being meted out to Dele Alli by manager Jose Mourinho.
The 24-year-old has seemingly fallen out of favour with the manager and has hardly been used in the ongoing campaign. While it looked like things were getting better for Alli, with the midfielder getting game-time off the bench in recent fixtures, he was dropped from the matchday squad for the league clash against Leicester City.
Following that, Alli started in the midweek clash against Stoke City in the Carabao Cup and had impressed until giving away the ball leading to the Potters’ goal.
Mourinho took Alli off soon after and then lashed out at the England international in his post-match interview. O’Hara has now claimed that this kind of interview is killing Alli’s confidence.
“What’s he gaining out of coming out in the press and digging out that single performance? It’s just killing his (Alli’s) confidence more.”
Further elaborating on his stance on the situation, O’Hara went on to insist that Alli is an asset to the club and wasn’t deserving of Mourinho’s criticism.
“He’s an investment for the club, he’s an asset to the football club whether he’s in your plans or not. You don’t want to really kill his confidence so much that you totally lose him. I didn’t like the way that Mourinho dug him out and he comes out and keeps singling him out. For me, it doesn’t sit right the way he keeps digging out Dele Alli.”
