Tottenham, Manchester City interested in Marten de Roon
According to 90min.com (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur are set to go head to head with Manchester City for the signing of Atalanta midfielder Marten de Roon.
The 29-year-old came through the ranks at Dutch club ASWH and spent time at the Feyenoord academy before signing for the Sparta Rotterdam youth setup in 2006. He went on to make over 60 appearances for the club before signing for Heerenveen in 2012 where he spent three years, making 104 appearances. (h/t Transfermarkt)
In 2015, De Roon moved to Italy, signing for Atalanta but was on the move a year later, as he joined Middlesbrough. However, the 29-year-old spent just twelve months in England before re-signing for Atalanta in 2017. Across his two stints, the Dutchman has made 187 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals.
A defensive midfielder by trade, De Roon also has 15 caps for the Netherlands national team.
A vital cog of the Atalanta midfield unit, De Roon is being chased by Manchester City, as well as Tottenham, the report claims. The Cityzens are pushing for his signing with more intent, but Jose Mourinho also wants to beef up his midfield options to come out on top in what has been a very close title race so far.

De Roon has proven himself as a valuable operator at Atalanta and has experience in the Premier League as well. However, considering that he still has over three years left on his contract, the Serie A side will hold all the aces in negotiations.
It has recently been reported that Mourinho wants to sign a new left-footed centre-back and a central midfielder in the winter window. It, however, remains to be seen if he makes a move for De Roon.
