RB Leipzig director confirms Tottenham interest in Marcel Sabitzer
As reported by the Evening Standard, RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche has confirmed Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in their midfield star Marcel Sabitzer.
Sabitzer has been a key member of the RB Leipzig side since joining the club in 2014. The 26-year-old impressed heavily in the 2019/20 season, playing a crucial role in the club’s third-place finish in Bundesliga and the semi-final run in the UEFA Champions League.
Currently the club captain, Sabitzer will be entering the final year of his contract with the Bundesliga giants. This has sparked speculations over his future at the club, with Tottenham heavily linked with a move for the Austrian international.
When asked about the Lilywhites’ interest in Sabitzer, Krosche acknowledged that the midfielder had admirers without taking the name of Jose Mourinho’s side.
“As I said, he has made a great development. It goes without saying that other clubs also notice this. I don’t like singling out anyone individually. But Marcel Sabitzer has really developed well.”
The RB Leipzig director further provided an update on the Austrian’s contract situation, insisting that negotiations will only begin after the January transfer window closes.
“We wanted to end the year first, both sides will deal more intensively with the topic in the spring.”

A quality operator, Sabitzer is known for his ability to score goals from midfield while his work-ethic is also unmatched. Thus, he could be an ideal fit into Jose Mourinho’s side and would be a major upgrade on someone like Moussa Sissoko.
With his deal expiring in eighteen months, it does present us with an opportunity to make a move for him in January or in the summer. It remains to be seen if the club is able to land him in the future.
