Tottenham target Sergio Ramos rejects Real Madrid contract offer
According to MARCA English, Real Madrid captain and defender Sergio Ramos has rejected a new contract offer from the La Liga champions. The veteran star has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur.
The 34-year-old Ramos is one of the most decorated footballers of the modern era. Having been at Real Madrid for close to fifteen years, the Spaniard has won almost every trophy there is to be won at club level. He has tasted plenty of success at the international level with the Spanish national team.
Ramos is in the final year of his current contract with Real Madrid. And, the Evening Standard claimed last month that Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho was keeping a close watch on the defender’s situation.
Now, as per MARCA, the defender has rejected a new contract offer from the La Liga champions. It is claimed that Real Madrid have offered a one-year extension to their captain, as is their policy for players over the age of 30. The new deal would see him earn in excess of €12m-a-year.
Ramos, though, has refused to put pen on paper to the offer, as he holds out for a longer duration on his contract. Given that he is in the final six months of his contract now, the Spanish international is allowed to speak to clubs from abroad over a free transfer at the end of the season.
Despite his age, given his legacy and winning mentality, Ramos would undoubtedly be an excellent addition for Tottenham. However, his wages could prove to be a problem. Furthermore, reigning Premier League champions Liverpool have also registered an interest in the 34-year-old.

It remains to be seen if Ramos does sign an extension at Real Madrid. If he doesn’t, making a play to sign him up should be right on top of the club’s agenda.
