Tottenham linked with a January move for Real Madrid defender Eder Militao
According to Spanish outlet AS (h/t Daily Mail), Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Real Madrid defender Eder Militao in the January transfer window.
Militao joined Los Blancos in March 2019 for a £43m fee. Since then, he has failed to cement his position as a pinned starter for Madrid.
He did make 15 league appearances last season as Madrid won the title, but has failed to get similar playing time this season. He has just 3 appearances for Zinedine Zidane’s side this season in all competitions.
And now, Real Madrid could be open to selling the defender, but only for a fee in the region of what they paid to FC Porto almost 2 years ago for the Brazilian. (h/t Daily Mail)
Jose Mourinho has found his preferred centre-back pairing this season. Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld lead a Spurs backline that has the 2nd best defensive record in the Premier League.
A wise move for Spurs
However, the situation could get complicated for Mourinho as Alderweireld continues to be linked with Dutch club PSV Eindhoven. Spurs’ backup centre-backs lack recent top-flight experience.
This might come back to haunt the Portuguese manager especially if Alderweireld leaves the club. Spurs are just 4 points off the top of the table and there have been talks in the fanbase of a genuine title challenge this season.
An experienced player like Eder Militao can certainly boost the depth and quality in Mourinho’s side. The former FC Porto manager is also said to be keen on Militao due to his versatility.
