Tottenham interested in signing American full-back Julian Araujo but face competition from Juventus

A report by Boot Room (h/t Football.london) states that Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with USA international Julian Araujo over a possible summer transfer.

The 19-year-old currently plays as a right-back for MLS club LA Galaxy. The Los Angeles-based club signed him from Barcelona’s residency academy in the United States.

He has since made 33 appearances in the league, scoring once and assisting thrice. And now, Spurs are looking to add him to their squad at the end of this season.

He came into the limelight recently as he made his international debut in a 6-0 win for El Salvador, where he got one assist. The youngster still has a lot of years ahead of him and could be a great long-term coup for the Lilywhites.

However, Spurs are not the only club interested in signing him. Serie A champions Juventus have also expressed an interest in signing the young right-back. (h/t football.london)

One for the future

Currently, Tottenham do not have any shortage in the right-back department. Serge Aurier has seemingly won Jose Mourinho’s trust and shares game time with summer signing Matt Doherty.

But the American’s arrival at the club could mean the end for either one of them. If Spurs do manage to get Araujo, he would not be the first American right-back to join Spurs from MLS. Tottenham signed DeAndre Yedlin from Seattle Sounders back in 2014.

Yedlin went on to make only one appearance for the senior side, which was as a substitute in a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa. If Araujo does join Mourinho’s side, he would be hoping to make a better impression than that.
