Anthony Georgiou linked with a move to AEL Limassol
A report by Football Insider (h/t Football.london) states that Tottenham Hotspur have opened talks with Cypriot club AEL Limassol over a move for academy player Anthony Georgiou.
The midfielder signed a new deal with Spurs in 2019, but only has one appearance for the senior side in his career. That 6-minute cameo came in a 3-0 win over another Cypriot club, APOEL Nicosia, in the UEFA Champions League in 2017.
Jose Mourinho seemingly does not have the 23-year-old in his plans and is looking to offload the midfielder in the January transfer window.
Georgiou is in the last few months of his contract at the club. This means he is open to discussing terms with foreign clubs in January over a possible summer transfer. (h/t football.london)
The Cypriot joined Tottenham Hotspur’s academy from Watford in the summer of 2013. Since then, he has failed to make any kind of impression in the first team.
Good riddance?
Any transfer that sees him leave the club would not be a massive blow. The 23-year-old is not a first-team player, nor do Spurs lack any firepower in midfield. Georgiou, who is a left-midfielder by trade, would find it hard to get any minutes with the club’s first-team. It looks like a move away would be the best solution for both parties.
In addition to that, if the club can seal a deal in January, they could also stand to make some money out of the transfer, instead of losing the player on a free transfer.

Georgiou has just 6 minutes of first-team football under his belt at the age of 23. It is, thus, no surprise that the club is looking to offload him.
