Alfie Devine impresses Ian Wright and Alan Shearer after debut against Marine

Sunday night was a special occasion for Tottenham youngster Alfie Devine, who made his senior debut for the club in the FA Cup third-round clash against Marine AFC.

The teenage midfielder arrived at the club only last summer from Wigan Athletic. Having already broken into the U23 side despite being just 16, Devine made his first-team bow, coming on for Moussa Sissoko at the start of the second half.

And just 15 minutes into his first-ever senior appearance, the 16-year-old turned the occasion into an even more memorable one as he found the back of the net with a brilliant finish to score our fifth goal of the night. And Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer, Shearer, was left mighty impressed with Devine’s finishing.

“He’ll be very proud and so he should be. It was a brilliant finish, the way he shifts the ball – it gives the keeper no chance. He moves it, short backlift, near-post, very good strike. 16!”

Fellow pundit and former Arsenal striker Ian Wright echoed Shearer’s comments on the Tottenham youngster.

“As soon as it hits the net, look at his face! I can’t even remember being 16. It was a great goal.”

The win saw Carlos Vinicius score a first-half hat-trick while Lucas Moura also got among the goals. With Devine also finding the back of the net, it was certainly a near-perfect evening for Tottenham.

Up next is a Premier League encounter against Aston Villa, where Jose Mourinho will bring back his big guns. But, if Devine’s performance on Sunday is anything to go by, the 16-year-old can expect more minutes with the first-team in the coming weeks.
