Jose Mourinho offers Tottenham lifeline to Dele Alli after Marine win
According to the Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has hinted that he is ready to offer Dele Alli another chance at the club after their win against Marine in the FA Cup.
Tottenham kickstarted their FA Cup journey for the season with a resounding 5-0 win over eighth division side Marine AFC on Sunday. Dele Alli, who has been largely out of favour under Mourinho this term, made just his sixth start of the campaign and made a solid impression.
While the 24-year-old did not get a goal, he got the assist for Carlos Vinicius’ opening goal and generally played very well before being taken off late in the second half.
And, speaking after the game, Mourinho seemed pleased with the performance from Alli and hinted at more regular minutes for the England international. Asked whether Alli had played his way back into first-team contention, the manager said:
“He was here today and of course it was not the match to measure the quality. But the professionalism and attitude and I am very happy with it. I will not be surprised if next Wednesday Dele is playing with us. I am really happy with his attitude in the game.”
Alli’s situation at Tottenham had led to speculations over his future at the club. Paris Saint-Germain, who had tried to sign him multiple times last summer, were once again said to be interested. More so, now that former Spurs’ boss Mauricio Pochettino took over the reins at the French capital club. (h/t Mirror)
