Tottenham edge closer in their bid to sign Christian Eriksen after agent initiates contact
A report by Sky Italia (h/t Express) states that the agent of Inter Milan midfielder Christian Eriksen has initiated ‘in-depth’ contact with Tottenham Hotspur over a possible January move.
The Danish midfielder joined Spurs from Ajax for £13m. He went on to make 305 appearances for the club before moving to Inter Milan last January for £24m.
However, his move to Italy has not panned out the way he would have wanted it to. Eriksen has just 4 goals and 3 assists for Inter in his 40 appearances for them.
And now, the Serie A side is keen on selling Eriksen who is believed to be on a high wage. His high salary is also proving to be a hurdle in their bid to sell him, with a profit looking improbable. Spurs are open to the possibility of welcoming Eriksen back on loan in this transfer window. (h/t Express)
A welcome reunion on the cards?
There is, however, a potential problem that could arise in the move. Inter want a fee for any loan move for Eriksen, while Tottenham are not willing to part with any cash. (h/t Express)
Tottenham have no shortage of attacking options, at least on paper. But the 28-year-old playmaker would add depth and quality in the Spurs side.
Moreover, he is not alien to the league. The midfielder proved himself at Tottenham during his stay at the club.

And with Spurs entering into a busy second half of the season, a player of Eriksen’s quality could prove to be helpful in their bid for silverware. He has also played under Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese manager joined Spurs in November 2019, just a couple of months before Eriksen departed for Italy in January 2020. It remains to be seen if this leads to a homecoming for the Dane just a year after he left the club.
