His new contract runs until the summer of 2022. Markanday is a creative right-midfielder and has played in 9 Premier League 2 games for the Spurs U-23 side this season.
He was promoted to the U-18 team in the summer of 2017 and took the step up to the U-23 team 2 years later. The young winger was a key member of the Spurs U-18 team that finished second in the U-18 Premier League in the 2018/19 season.
Markanday played 21 out of Spurs’ 22 games that season, the most of any player, and netted 11 times.
He also scored in the first-ever game played at the club’s new stadium, netting in the 3-1 test event against Southampton at the venue. (h/t Tottenham Hotspur website)
One for the future
This is certainly good news for the club as they have tied down a talented attacker for at least one more season. He also has a big season ahead in the Premier League 2.
Spurs U-23 sit 4th in the table, just 2 points off the top. Markanday has featured in 9 of these games, netting once in that process.
He would be hoping he could make the step up to the senior team next season and can showcase his quality to Jose Mourinho. As of now, Spurs do not have a dire need for wingers.
But, the 19-year-old has a long career ahead of him. If the London-born Makanday can keep on upping his game, he could be a regular in the senior squad in the coming years.
