Tottenham and Liverpool keen on signing Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella
A report by Italian outlet CalcioMercato (h/t LiverpoolEcho), Tottenham Hotspur are battling Premier League rivals, Liverpool, for the signature of Inter Milan midfielder star Nicolo Barella.
Barella has been one of the most consistent players for Inter this season. He has played in all 18 of their league games this campaign as Inter sit 2nd in the Serie A table.
He was loaned out to Cagliari in the summer of 2019 but has become a regular fixture in Antonio Conte’s side since his return to Milan last summer.
Not just that, Barella has featured in all of their cup games as well. He played in their solitary Copa Italia game so far and featured in their 6 Champions League group stage games.
And now, he has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs. This includes Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham, who could use a player like Barella in the team. (h/t LiverpoolEcho)
A good option?
The central midfielder has impressive numbers this season as well. Barella already has 2 goals and 8 assists this season for I Nerazzurri.
The 23-year-old also scored one goal and assisted another in Inter’s 2-0 league win over Juventus last weekend. However, there will be resistance from Inter if Barella is to leave, as the Italian side paid £40m for him.
Liverpool are supposedly interested in a summer move for the Italian. This could give Spurs a headstart if they want a deal in January, but there are no indications of that happening yet.
Spurs also have a healthy midfield, at least on paper. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Moussa Sissoko, and Tanguy Ndombele have been the reliable midfield trio for Jose Mourinho so far.

Nevertheless, it goes without saying that Barella would add real quality as well as depth to the Spurs squad. And at just 23, he still has a lot of footballing years ahead of him.
