Tottenham Hotspur keen on signing Danny Ings in the summer transfer window
A report by Dean Jones of Eurosport states that Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring Southampton striker Danny Ings before planning to make a bid in the summer transfer window.
Tottenham were interested in the English striker in the summer. However, they opted out of the move as Ings was not looking to move, and signed Carlos Vinicius on loan from SL Benfica instead.
But now, Spurs are back in for the former Liverpool forward. Ings was supposed to put pen to paper on a new deal back in 2020, but is stalling as of now. (h/t Eurosport)
This is a cause for concern for the Saints, for whom the 28-year-old has 7 goals and 3 assists in the league this season. And Spurs would monitor if Ings is considering his future at St. Mary’s before preparing a bid in the summer.
A good option?
Spurs do have the lethal pairing of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min upfront. However, Jose Mourinho wants to strengthen his attack further. Also, Vinicius would be departing the club next summer when his loan deal runs out.
While Son is a potent forward, he is not exactly a traditional number 9. Ings could be an out-and-out striker that Mourinho needs to either pair alongside Harry Kane, or start upfront when he is resting Kane.
Ings is no stranger to the Premier League. He has played in 124 top-flight games for three different clubs, scoring 50 goals in that time. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Signing Ings would also take some goal-scoring burden off the shoulders of Kane and Son. Moreover, it can provide the competition for starting places which could help other players in upping their game as well.
