Gedson Fernandes joins Galatasaray after ineffective Tottenham Hotspur loan
According to Daily Mail, Tottenham loanee Gedson Fernandes has put an end to his disappointing stay in North London by joining Turkish side Galatasaray.
The Portuguese midfielder joined Spurs on an 18-month deal last January. He has however failed to impress, forcing the clubs to cut short his loan. He has made just 14 appearances and has failed to make a single goal contribution during this time.
Fernandes has fallen down the pecking order this season. The arrival of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg did little to improve his prospects. He made just two appearances this season and was yet to feature at all in the Premier League. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Tottenham had the opportunity to make the deal permanent for £45million. However, given his performances, the chances of that happening were minute. A player in demand just a year ago, Spurs looked to have pulled off a coup by landing the 22-year-old. Unfortunately, he never quite settled down as expected.
The move to Turkey now represents a chance for the youngster to rekindle his career. Currently third in the Turkish league, Galatasaray are in contention for the title and could do with a boost in their midfield.
The deal almost fell through after Fernandes recently tested positive for coronavirus. However, he travelled to Turkey in a special ambulance plane in order to get the deal done.
