Jose Mourinho set to be given time at Tottenham, but pressure growing

According to the Independent, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is prepared to give manager Jose Mourinho time to turn things around although the pressure’s growing on the Portuguese.

Levy brought in Mourinho as a replacement for Mauricio Pochettino in November 2019. Since taking over, there have been quite a few positives for Tottenham under the Portuguese tactician’s reign.

However, things seem to be unravelling of late with the club’s Premier League title push all but over while they also run the risk of falling way behind in the race for the top four places.

The defeat to Chelsea on Thursday night was Tottenham’s third in a row, with the club now picking up just nine points from the last ten league games. As things stand, we are 14 points behind leaders Manchester City and seven below Liverpool  in fourth.

The performances have been dismal of late and even though Mourinho is pointing towards injuries to the likes of Harry Kane and Sergio Reguilon, the pressure is said to be mounting on the Portuguese tactician. However, the report does add that Levy is prepared to give him time to get things back on track.

Despite the league title push derailing, Tottenham are still in the League Cup finals and alive in the FA Cup as well as the UEFA Europa League. However, there is no excuse for the recent performances and it is very important that Mourinho turn things around at the earliest possible.

Up next is a game against relegation battlers West Bromwich Albion. Another disappointing result there and things could turn sour for Mourinho.
