Leicester City enter the race for Tottenham target Merih Demiral
According to the Turkish source Fanatik (h/t Leicestershire Live), Leicester City have entered the race for Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Merih Demiral.
Spurs were keen to bring in a defender and looked towards the Serie A for targets. The likes of Milan Skriniar and Demiral were both linked but neither made the move to North London.
Half a year later, competition has only grown for the latter. Liverpool, Manchester City and now Leicester are all keen on securing the 22-year-old Juventus star. The Turkish international has made 17 appearances for the Old Lady, making one assist this season. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Brendan Rodgers’ side was also keen on securing Demiral in January last year. However, the player sustained an injury and he ended up staying put at the Allianz Stadium. (h/t Leicestershire Live)
The 22-year-old has also been attracting attention from a number of continental sides. Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are all keeping tabs on the defensive ace.
Having been restricted to just eight appearances in 2019/20, Demiral has once again been blighted by injuries. He now finds himself behind the likes of Leonardo Bonucci and Matthijs de Ligt in the Juventus pecking order.
Demiral was growing frustrated due to the lack of opportunities he has received in Turin. He was worried that staying on the bench could cost him a spot in next summer’s Euros. The defender has predominantly played in the cup competitions and has made just one Serie A start since November.

According to Tutto Mercato via Sport Witness (h/t Leicestershire Live), Demiral could be available for around €35m once the Euros end. Demiral is a player with high potential but the injury has seen his stock take a tumble.
At 22, he still has a number of years left in him and would be a risk worth pursuing.
