Agent of Gareth Bale blames Jose Mourinho for winger’s lack of game time
Speaking at the Financial Times Business of Football Event (h/t Football.london), Jonathan Barnett, the agent of Tottenham winger Gareth Bale, has pointed fingers at Jose Mourinho over the Welshman’s lack of game-time.
The 31-year-old Bale returned to Tottenham on loan from Real Madrid amid much fanfare last summer. However, the move has failed to yield the intended rewards as the Welsh international has struggled for game-time due to fitness and form issues.
And even though he has been fit and available in recent games, Mourinho has shown a sense of reluctance to use him of late, sparking questions over the Real Madrid loanee’s situation at Tottenham. And, Barnett, addressing the matter, claimed that only Mourinho can answer why his client hasn’t been playing regularly.
“He’s towards the end of his career. You have to ask Mourinho that. When they say what’s happened to him he’s won more trophies abroad than any player in British history. He’s done very well financially, he has money for the rest of his life.”
Since returning to Tottenham last summer, Bale has featured just 16 times in all competitions, scoring four goals. The Wales international has started just two Premier League games all season, providing an indication of where he stands in Mourinho’s plans. (h/t Transfermarkt)

It is clear that the move to bring Bale back from Real Madrid for a second stint has been a failure. While there is still time for him to salvage something from the campaign between now and the end of the season, there is little hope of him staying at Tottenham beyond this term.
