Steve McManaman believes Steven Gerrard could end up managing Tottenham in the future
According to the Scottish Herald, Steve McManaman believes Steven Gerrard could end up managing Tottenham in the future. The Liverpool icon felt that Gerrard could move to a side like Spurs or Manchester City before he decides to manage Liverpool.
There has been ample talk about Gerrard’s future after he guided Rangers to the Scottish Premier League. It was believed that he would return to England and manage his former side, Liverpool. While he harbours that ambition, he did concede that Jurgen Klopp could stay at the club for another 10 years.
That led to McManaman saying that Gerrard could end up joining one of Liverpool’s rivals such as Man City or Tottenham.
“Yes I could, of course I could. I mean all it depends on what Steven wants, but if Jurgen wants to manage Liverpool for the next 10 years and Steven gets an offer to manage, I don’t know, a Tottenham or a Man City, he might feel that’s more palatable than waiting for Liverpool.”
However, he did feel that such a move could play against his ambitions of managing Liverpool later.
“It’s entirely up to him. But I think his dream job would be to manage Liverpool and he wouldn’t want to spoil that. I think if he did have any offers he would always take that consideration about whether it tarnishes or stops him from getting the Liverpool job. If he got the Manchester United job that would tarnish him getting the Liverpool job. His ideal job in the future would be him managing Liverpool, it just goes hand in glove doesn’t it?”

McManaman added that managing a passionate side like Rangers has prepared Gerrard for taking over a similar team like Liverpool. Gerrard has already shown that he has the managerial nous by breaking Celtic’s grasp on the title. It might be hard to imagine Gerrard managing Tottenham given the history with Liverpool but stranger things have happened in football.
