Sampdoria reveal price tag for Tottenham-linked Mikkel Damsgaard

According to Calciomercato (h/t The Star), Sampdoria have slapped a £17million price-tag on Mikkel Damsgaard, who has been linked to Tottenham. The Danish winger was linked with a move to North London during the January transfer window.

The 20-year-old started his youth career at hometown club Jyllinge before completing his development at Nordsjaelland. He made his senior breakthrough during the 2017-18 season aged just 17.

The youngster’s growing reputation in his homeland was enough to prompt Sampdoria to offer him a route to Italy this past summer. Damsgaard has enjoyed a promising start to life in Serie A.

Spurs haven’t really been short of firepower in the Premier League this season, with 46 goals scored in 27 games so far. However, the influential strike pairing of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son has contributed to most of those goals. That clearly shows Jose Mourinho’s side have lacked significant goal contributions from other attackers.

Despite being well-stocked on the flanks, Tottenham have had their fair share of troubles there. While Son has been simply outstanding, the likes of Erik Lamela and Steven Bergwijn have offered very little in the Premier League. Gareth Bale has only started to show flashes of a return to his best form while Lucas has been used in a central role.

While Damsgaard is by no means a finished article, he can be a shrewd bit of investment from the club. Gareth Bale’s future is still uncertain and recruiting a young player like Dansgaard could go a long way in replacing him.
