Transfer News: Tottenham to have first refusal for Gareth Bale in the summer

According to a transfer news update from Eurosport, Tottenham Hotspur will have the option of first refusal for on-loan Real Madrid star Gareth Bale in the summer.

The 31-year-old Bale arrived at Tottenham on a season-long loan stint from Real Madrid in the summer last year. After a disastrous start to life back in London, the Welshman has rediscovered his form in recent weeks and is starting to show his quality again.

Indeed, Bale has scored and created some very important goals over the past few weeks. In total, in 24 games across all competitions, the Welshman has produced a tally of 10 goals and three assists.

It has been claimed previously that Tottenham are keen on making Bale’s stay at the club permanently once his loan spell comes to an end when the season is over. And now the aforementioned update states that the North London outfit will have first refusal on the 31-year-old winger at the end of the season.

The report adds that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy had the clause added in initial negotiations with Real Madrid over the loan signing of Bale last summer itself. The chairman is said to be a huge admirer of the Welshman and wants him to play in front of a packed Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season.

Bale, despite the promising signs in recent weeks, is on the wrong side of his thirties and has been plagued with fitness issues for quite some time now. So, the club must exercise utmost caution in going through with a permanent deal for him given that he will command big wages and it could backfire for Levy & co.
