Man City will pass up on Harry Kane transfer from Tottenham claims Rio Ferdinand
According to the Evening Standard, former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Manchester City will not sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane in the summer transfer window. Instead, they will focus on bringing in Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.
Kane, 27, is widely regarded as one of the best marksmen in the game currently. For over half-a-decade, the England captain has been scoring goals for fun and has enjoyed a spectacular 2020/21 campaign so far.
Indeed, Kane has plundered 26 goals and 16 assists from 38 games across all competitions. Despite all his individual exploits, the centre-forward is yet to win a single major trophy in his career with Tottenham. This has been a major talking point, with pundits insisting that the Englishman will leave the club in order to fulfil his ambitions.
Amidst this, it had been claimed that Manchester City are in the market to replace all-time leading goalscorer Sergio Aguero and have narrowed down on the Tottenham superstar as an option. (h/t Metro)
However, Ferdinand has said that the current Premier League leaders are likely to snub a transfer for Tottenham man Kane. Instead, they would look at Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, who would be a much younger alternative for the club.
“I think a season or two ago Harry Kane would have been the first choice for [City] because he can play that No 10 role and he can come deep and become part of the midfield and create extra numbers in there. I think now the age may be a concern and the actual price tag he is going to come with.
“When you have got people like Haaland it is a different proposition in terms of longevity to build around for a number of years.”
