Transfer News: Tottenham make a decision on the future of Carlos Vinicius

According to the latest news from Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur have made a decision on the future of on-loan striker Carlos Vinicius ahead of the summer transfer window.

Vinicius, 25, arrived at Tottenham Hotspur last summer on a loan transfer for the entirety of the 2020/21 campaign. The Brazilian hasn’t had a whole lot of opportunities in the Premier League. But he has done fairly well in the Europa League and the cup competitions so far.

During his stint with Tottenham to date, Vinicius has managed a return of nine goals and three assists from 21 appearances in all competitions.

As part of the loan agreement with Benfica, Tottenham had inserted a clause wherein the club could sign Vinicius on a permanent transfer for a fee of around £38m. This clause can be activated when the Brazilian goalscorer’s loan deal runs out at the end of the season.

However, as per the report, Tottenham have arrived at the decision that the club will not be triggering that clause in the summer. It is claimed that Spurs do not have any intention of signing on the 25-year-old on a permanent basis, especially at that price.

While there is a possibility that the north London giants could negotiate a lower transfer fee for their on-loan marksman, it also seems like a distant possibility as things stand.

Vinicius has shown that he can perform when given a chance. However, the lack of minutes in the Premier League is a stark indicator of the fact that manager Jose Mourinho does not entirely trust the centre-forward. So, as things stand, Tottenham could possibly scouring the market once again for a reliable backup for Harry Kane come summer.
