Transfer News: Tottenham and Liverpool interested in Schalke star Matthew Hoppe
According to news outlet 90min, Tottenham have identified Matthew Hoppe as a transfer target alongside Liverpool. The Schalke striker has had a breakthrough season and that has put him on the radar of these two Premier League sides.
The US-based striker has been a ray of shining light for Schalke in what has been a rather pathetic season for them in the Bundesliga. He has just started playing for the first team and in 15 senior games, he has scored 5 goals, which is the highest in the side.
Interest from the Premier League in Hoppe has been there for a while, with the likes of Manchester United and City, Liverpool and Spurs all after him. However, the latter two have made their intentions of a summer move clear.
There is apparently a gentleman’s agreement between Schalke and Hoppe that he be allowed to leave at the end of this season. The club are not going to oppose a move if any team offers a fair valuation of the player and Spurs are looking to go for the same.

While Spurs don’t need a striker right now given we have Kane as first choice and Carlos Vinicius as a backup, we could be forced to sign one. It has been reported that Daniel Levy isn’t keen on turning Vinicius’ loan deal into a permanent one. In that regard, Hoppe can be a good investment for the club given his age and potential.
