Tottenham News: Jose Mourinho would be paid a huge sum if Daniel Levy gives him the sack
A report by The Mirror mentions the news that Tottenham Hotspur chairman, Daniel Levy, is giving Jose Mourinho a ‘stay of execution’ amid talks of him receiving the sack in North London.
Spurs were kicked out of the UEFA Europa League last-16 stages in a shock 2nd-leg loss to Dinamo Zagreb. The Croatian side trailed 2-0 from the first leg but beat Spurs 3-0 in the reverse fixture to go through.
And that has left a section of Tottenham fans wanting Mourinho, who is on £12million-a-year wage at Spurs, out of the club. #JoseOut was a trending topic on Twitter after their UEL loss as fans expressed their frustration at the situation.
Levy has been supportive of Mourinho but the situation at Spurs is worsening for the Portuguese manager. Spurs sit 8th in the league, are out of the FA Cup, and are no longer competing in Europe.
Mourinho’s future hanging in the balance
And the report mentions that only a top-4 finish and a win in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City in April is likely to save the former Real Madrid now.
Another reason why Levy would be hesitant to sack Mourinho so soon is because of the lump sum that Tottenham would have to pay. He would receive £25million if the club decides to let him go.
Tottenham have already built a £1billion stadium. And with the finances already strained due to the Covid-19 pandemic, that does sound like a significant sum of money to part ways with.
