Transfer News: Tottenham suffer Lucas Vazquez setback
According to transfer news from Football Transfer Tavern, Tottenham have hit a snag in their pursuit of Lucas Vazquez. It has now been reported that Bayern Munich are in the lead for the Real Madrid wide player.
A product of the Real Madrid academy, Lucas Vazquez has grown into a key squad player for the Spanish champions since his breakthrough in 2015. The 29-year-old has been particularly impressive this term, especially when filling in as a makeshift right-back in the absence of Dani Carvajal.
However, Vazquez’s contract with Real Madrid runs out at the end of the season. This has sparked a flurry of interest in the Spanish international’s services, including from Tottenham Hotspur. However, now it has been said that Bayern are ahead in the process of securing his signature.
Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane, however, is keen on retaining the winger beyond the current season. To that end, the club made him a three-year contract offer with a 10% reduction on his current €3.5m per year wages.
Vazquez, unhappy with the terms being offered, has decided to move on from Real Madrid at the end of the season. And in order to secure his transfer, Tottenham Hotspur are now said to be willing to offer him improved wages than his current deal at Real Madrid.

While he may not be the flashiest of players, Vazquez, given his all-around abilities, can be a handy option for Jose Mourinho. That he will cost nothing in transfer fee is surely set to appeal to Daniel Levy as well. However, with Bayern ahead in his pursuit, Spurs will have their task cut out to sign him.
