Juan Foyth hails Tottenham teammate Giovani Lo Celso
Speaking to 90min.es (h/t Football.london), Tottenham loanee Juan Foyth has lavished praise on club teammate Giovani Lo Celso, hailing him as the engine of the side.
Foyth, who has been at Tottenham since 2017, left the club on loan last summer. Having joined La Liga club Villarreal, the Argentine defender has thrived at his temporary team, becoming a regular under former Arsenal manager Unai Emery.
While question marks remain over his future back at Tottenham, the Argentine international looks back at his time at the club fondly. Foyth, in the aforementioned interview, touched upon how close manager Jose Mourinho to the players, which is not the initial perception one gets from the Portuguese’ general demeanour.
Foyth also opened up on playing with his Tottenham and Argentina teammate, Lo Celso. The Spurs’ loanee was full of praise for the midfielder and also went on to reveal an anecdote when he and Eric Dier were stunned by the Argentine’s quality.
“For me, he [Lo Celso] already exploded last year. When Mourinho arrived he did not start playing, but after it was impossible to take him out because he was the engine of the team, the one who ran the most, the one who asked for the ball the most.”
“I remember a game we were talking to Eric Dier on the bench and he told me, ‘I can’t believe he [Lo Celso] doesn’t play for Real Madrid or Barcelona’.”

Lo Celso showed plenty of promise towards the back end of the last season. He also made a solid start to the current season before being sidelined with an injury. The Argentine did make a return to on-field action just before the international break.
Hopefully, he is able to finish the campaign strongly ad help us finish in the top four and win the Carabao Cup as well.
