Transfer News: Tottenham want Jannik Vestergaard in case Milan Skriniar deal falls through
According to transfer news by Express, Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign Southampton defender, Jannik Vestergaard, in the summer to bolster their defence.
Jose Mourinho wants to strengthen his defensive rearguard. And last week’s collapse at Newcastle United has pushed the club to speed up a deal for the Saints centre-back.
Vestergaard joined the Premier League outfit back in 2018 from Borussia Monchengladbach. He has gone on to make 70 appearances for the Saints in all competitions and is a vital figure for them this campaign.
The Danish international has just one year left on his current contract. And a deal for him is thought to cost the Lilywhites around £18million.
Milan Skriniar of Inter Milan remains the club’s defensive target, but Spurs understand that Antonio Conte might be reluctant to let go of his Slovakian talisman after a good season in Serie A.
Mourinho planning ahead despite uncertain future
The 26-year-old defender would cost Spurs around £25million. And Spurs are expected to make another move for him in the summer after failing to sign him in the January transfer window.
But with the possibility of failure again, the London-based club are eyeing a move for Vestergaard.
Either of those two defenders would be a good option. Both of them are arguably in their prime years and would significantly bolster the depth in Mourinho’s defence.
There is pressure on the Portuguese gaffer to deliver European football this season. Failure to ensure that could impact Daniel Levy’s decision of keeping him at the club at the end of this season.
