Transfer News: Tottenham join Arsenal in race to sign Christopher Nkunku

According to news from French outlet Foot Mercato, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are considering a move to secure the transfer of RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku in the summer.

The 23-year-old came through the youth ranks at French club Paris Saint-Germain. While he enjoyed a run in the first team, the lack of regular opportunities saw Nkunku make the switch to RB Leipzig in the summer of 2019.

Since arriving at the Bundesliga outfit, Nkunku has become a permanent fixture in the starting XI under Julian Nagelsmann.

A central attacking midfielder by trade, the former French youth international has been used in a host of roles in Germany, be it on the flanks, or through the middle as a centre-forward while also as a wing-back on occasion.

And Nkunku has stood up to the challenge and done well in every role. His development and versatile nature has now led to him attracting a lot of interest from a number of clubs in Europe. Manchester United are said to have kept tabs on the former PSG ace while Barcelona are listed as another club looking at him. Among these clubs are also Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal. (h/t Foot Mercato)

Dele Alli has fallen out of favour under Jose Mourinho this term and does not seem like having a future at the club. And with Gareth Bale’s loan spell also coming to an end at the end of the season, someone like Nkunku, who can play as a No. 10 or on the wings, can be a fine signing for us.

The report adds that RB Leipzig would be open to a sale at the right price. But with other clubs also interested, it remains to be seen if Tottenham do make a move.
