Carlo Ancelotti sends message to Jose Mourinho critics ahead of Everton vs Tottenham

According to Football.london, Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has backed his Tottenham counterpart Jose Mourinho amidst the waves of criticism that he has been getting.

Mourinho has been with Tottenham since November 2019, having taken over the reins after the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino. The Portuguese, however, has come under intense pressure since the turn of the year, with results not going the team’s way.

Indeed, from being contenders for the title, Tottenham have dropped to seventh place, battling for a top-four finish. In addition, the team also crashed out of the UEFA Europa League in a disheartening manner to Dinamo Zagreb last month.

All this has led to mounting criticism on Mourinho but Ancelotti, who Everton side host Tottenham later tonight, has thrown his weight behind the Portuguese.

“Every manager tries to do his best. We try to do our best. I am not able to judge [Jose] Mourinho’s job. In my opinion he always does a fantastic job. Pressure on a manager is normal. Every manager has to manage the pressure.”

Friday night’s match will be a crucial one for both teams given as Everton are also still pretty much in the picture for the top-four and top-six. Indeed, the Toffees are just a point and a place below us in the table, making a win here all the more important for both teams.

“It will be an open game. They need points and we need points. They could score but we could score also. It is unpredictable to say what could happen.”

Mourinho and Tottenham can still salvage this season. A top-four finish with the victory in the Carabao Cup would still be a positive season for the club. Hopefully, things turn around for the better starting from the Everton clash.
