Tottenham approach Maurizio Sarri as Jose Mourinho replacement

According to Football Italia (h/t Daily Mail), Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri over the managerial role following the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

Tottenham let go of Mourinho and his coaching staff on Monday morning following the decline of results since the turn of the year. Having been at the top of the Premier League standings at one point in December, Spurs slipped down to seventh at the time of Mourinho’s sacking. The disastrous exit from the Europa League against Dinamo Zagreb made matters worst.

The 2-2 draw against Everton was seen as the final straw as Daniel Levy made the call to relieve Jose of his duties. In his stead, ex-Spurs midfielder Ryan Mason has been named as interim manager until the end of the season. And the hunt for a full-time replacement for Mourinho has begun in full flow.

The name of RB Leipzig head coach Julian Nagelsmann has been doing the rounds quite a bit. But as per the report, former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is another name that is in discussion. In fact it is even claimed that the club has already established contact with his agent, Fali Ramadani over the possibility of the Italian taking over from next season. (h/t Daily Mail)

Sarri has had an interesting career in football management. Having started out in the lower leagues of Italy, the 62-year-old worked his way up the ladder before earning the Napoli job, whom he turned into genuine title challengers. A one-year stint with Chelsea followed in 2018/19 when he led the club to Europa League success and a respectable third-place finish in the league.

Sarri was last in charge at Juventus in 2019/20, winning the Serie A title with them.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

Having left Juventus at the end of the last season, Sarri has been out of management for a year now. While he may not be a popular choice, the Italian has proven himself in England and done so by playing an attractive brand of football. It remains to be seen if there is any truth to the claim of Tottenham already contacting him though.
